Meet Zuri
Zuri (8) arrived at the A.B. and Jessie Polinsky Children’s Center at age 3 due to neglect and abuse and was eventually placed with a caregiver.

Kiana (2) entered care when she was only four days old. She was removed from her home when drug abuse and neglect from her parents made it unsafe for her to remain there.
They currently live apart in four different homes. They entered care when abuse and neglect made it unsafe to remain at home. The boys have been attending Camp Connect events since December 2020.
Twins, Ellie (15), Logan (15), and their little brother, Oliver (11) entered care together in 2017. Due to neglect, it was unsafe for them to remain at home. All three live apart in different placements. Not long after they entered care, they joined Camp Connect so that they would have regular chances to see each other and spend quality time together.
Nadia entered care when she was 9 years old due to severe neglect. She is now 17 years old, and like many teenage girls, she likes to go shopping and buy new clothes. Instead of asking for new clothes, or the newest gadget, Nadia requested items to better prepare for her future.
Vanessa was 8 years old when she and her brother entered foster care. Both experienced physical abuse and emotional neglect. They were separated immediately, only getting the chance to see each other monthly through Camp Connect.
Trent (3) entered care the day he was born due to being exposed to drugs prenatally. Trent had developmental and behavioral health needs, but was connected to vital resources to get him on track.
Mindy was 3 years old when she arrived at the A.B. and Jessie Polinsky Children’s Center (PCC) after being removed from her biological parents due to neglect and domestic violence she witnessed between her parents. She was born prematurely and had unaddressed medical, developmental, and behavioral health challenges.
Sophia (5) was born with significant medical needs. She was removed from her parents in 2020 due to severe general and medical neglect. As a result of Sophia’s behavioral, medical, and mental health challenges, she had 4 placement changes, 3 social workers, and has been in 3 different school districts.
Lilly was born in her family vehicle and was unhoused with her biological parents for most of her life. She entered care at age 4 due to severe neglect. When she arrived at the A.B. and Jessie Polinsky Children’s Center (PCC), she was considered as a candidate for KidSTART services due to her behavioral and developmental needs.
