Something Special Fund
The Something Special Fund provides support for foster children’s wishes for special requests that most children take for granted. Promises2Kids ensures foster children know that they too are special and deserving — and that someone cares.
Special circumstances often arise in a foster child’s life where they need additional financial support for activities such as sports equipment, music classes, a class photo, or application fees to apply for college. Because of this lack of funding, many foster youth are unable to fully experience everything life has to offer them at this age, which is so critical to a sense of belonging. The Something Special Fund was designed to provide foster youth with additional funds so that they don’t have to sit on the sidelines because they don’t have a prom dress or suit or because they can’t afford sheet music, art supplies or a class ring. Financial support is provided on an ‘as needed’ basis for youth ages 18 and under.

The Birthday Club
For a small child living in a shelter or waiting to be adopted, each day can seem like a lifetime. Special days, such as birthdays, often go by unnoticed. No child should spend their birthday alone or without a special gift because of difficult family circumstances beyond their control. And that is why we created the Birthday Club.
No one came to visit me on my birthday, but you remembered me and I will never forget you.
The program provides children ages 18 and under, living in shelters or in foster care with a birthday gift card on their special day. It is sometimes the only gift they receive. The gift not only gives the children a chance to pick out their own special gift, but it also sends a message that someone cares, and that they have not been forgotten.
Each year, Promises2Kids partners with the community to host collection drives to support the needs of foster children. We hold large drives to collect backpack packs, Halloween costumes, and holiday gifts. We also host shopping events to make certain that foster children have the opportunity to go back-to-school shopping for an outfit and school supplies so they can start the year feeling confident and prepared.
