I HAVE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH CHILDHOOD TRAUMA AND ADVERSITY,

and have much empathy for foster kids in our community. With the care and support from Promises2Kids, they can overcome their past trauma and eventually lead successful and productive lives, just like I did.

By naming Promises2Kids as a beneficiary of my estate, I am trying to make a difference by increasing the chances these young people have to rise above the trauma they have suffered.

IN 1978, AFTER READING A LOCAL ARTICLE ABOUT CHILD ABUSE,

I made it my personal mission to support children in our community who experience trauma at home. For the past 40 years, Promises2Kids has done that by helping foster youth understand that their horrific pasts do not define their futures. My family estate gift will enable Promises2Kids to continue changing lives for future generations.

Ivan (13) and Allie (10) entered foster care after their mother passed away. They had been separated for approximately one year.

At a recent visit to the park, Ivan threw a football in the air over the playground and signaled for Allie and the Camp Connect team to try and catch it. They ran in circles and flailed their arms in an attempt to catch Ivan’s great football throw. It gave him a sense of pride and happiness.

Later on the swings, Allie challenged Ivan to see who could swing higher. Ivan, pretending to be scared of heights, let his little sister win.

Afterwards they pulled up to Allie’s favorite restaurant for dinner. Next to the restaurant was a frozen yogurt shack. Ivan said he had never tasted frozen yogurt before. Without hesitation, they rushed into the store and were mesmerized by all of the flavors and toppings. They both smiled as they tasted it. Ivan said, “I have to admit – yogurt didn’t sound like a good treat. It sounded like a healthy breakfast. But frozen yogurt is AWESOME!”
