21-year-old Daniel entered foster care when he was 13. His mother left him and his father, and when his father was imprisoned, he was placed at the A. B. and Jessie Polinsky Children’s Center (PCC). Ultimately, he lived in 6 placements and group homes and attended 4 different schools. Daniel joined Guardian Scholars in 2022 to follow his educational goals and dreams. Read more here:
Guardian Scholar Jamon (21) just wants to bring a little beauty into the world. He suffered from neglect when his grandparents were unable to provide a safe home for him. He joined Guardian Scholars to pursue his goals and dreams, and for him, those passions are in cosmetology. Read more here:
20-year-old Emilio is in their second year with Guardian Scholars. They entered care at age 14 after persistent physical and emotional abuse from their father. They’re currently double majoring in Sociology and Psychology at Southwestern Community College to ultimately transfer to SDSU.
Ruth entered foster care at 9 years old. She and her three sisters were neglected and exposed to substance abuse at home. Like many siblings, she was separated from her sisters. She is now in her first year of studying computer engineering. Ruth is highly motivated to make a positive example of her life.
Myles (10) loves teaching his sister new things and Sadie (6) just loves attention from her big brother. When the Camp Connect Polaroid came out, he eagerly borrowed it and showed Sadie how to use it.
Dante (11) and Cassie (7) entered care in 2022 and are living apart from each other in foster care. Even during an action-packe day at sSesame Place, the most cherished simply being together.
When Ally, Kirby, and Maddy entered care in 2015 they were split up and currently live apart. On top of everything, they changed schools, which disrupted their social lives, and crucially, their relationships with each other. They started attending Camp Connect to maintain that precious bond they felt with each other through monthly visits and events.
