Guardian Scholars Give Thanks at our Annual Dinner

Happy Thanksgiving!

We continued one of our favorite traditions by hosting Thanksgiving dinners for our Guardian Scholars, in Central San Diego, and in North County.

Over the course of two nights, we gave thanks and celebrated our community with a traditional meal surrounded by friends, staff, and supporters. We look forward to this event every year as we share in the joy and togetherness that make the holiday season special.

A big thank you to our longtime presenting sponsor of this event, ESET. Without their generous support and volunteers, events like these would not be possible!

Advocates for Change Attend a Media Training from Promises2Kids’ PR Agency

Promises2Kids Advocates for Change specialty group provides an opportunity for students to develop their storytelling voice, strengthen their public speaking and presentation skills, and grow into Advocates for foster youth in the community.

This month, we were pleased to be joined by the PR agency, Beck Ellman Heald, who delivered a presentation on news media training, storytelling, and interview preparation. The group then got some hands-on practice by fielding sample interview questions from their peers.

We are excited to see this year’s group of Advocates grow together and we look forward to our next meeting!

Guardian Scholars Parenting Group Holds Second Meeting

Guardian Scholars Parenting Group recently met for their second class of the year at the YMCA. 10 parents, along with their 11 children attended for an evening of learning and fun!

The group learned about communication skills and conflict resolution from a guest speaker representing Kids Turn, which provides groups, training, and support to parents that are separated and co-parenting.

Our generous volunteers provided childcare which allowed precious time for our Guardian Scholar parents to spend time bonding with other parents who share similar experiences.

This group wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our community and the help of our volunteers. If you are interested in getting involved, visit the link in our bio!

Congratulations to our CEO, Tonya Torosian, who was recognized in the San Diego Business Journal (SDBJ) and San Diego Magazine for her outstanding work! 👏

Tonya was selected as one of San Diego’s top business leaders in SDBJ’s SD500 Special Edition, and one of SDBJ’s 2022 Business Women of the Year Finalists.

We couldn’t be prouder of the leadership and dedication Tonya puts into creating a brighter future for foster children.
