Guardian Scholars
Meet Jamon
Guardian Scholar Jamon (21) wants to bring a little beauty into the world. He suffered from neglect when his grandparents were unable to provide a safe home for him. At age 7, he and his siblings entered the A.B. and Jessie Polinsky Children’s Center. Unfortunately, not long after, they were separated were forced to live apart. Throughout Jamon time in care, he lived in 9 placements.
Jamon joined Guardian Scholars to pursue his goals and dreams, and for him, those passions are in cosmetology. He wants to help others feel as good as he does when he does his makeup. He is currently attending San Diego City College working towards a business degree with an emphasis in art history and is looking forward to a career in the beauty field. Jamon recently had the opportunity to spend part of his summer in Florence studying art history. He also works part-time for City College’s NextUp program, connecting students to services.
Jamon is a constant presence in the Black and LGBTQ+ cultural groups as well as Men’s Leadership Network. Through these, he finds community and support.
Thanks to supporters like you, students like Jamon can be themselves and follow their dreams, brightening the San Diego community along the way.
