Promises2Kids Recognizes National Foster Care Day

May holds a special place in Promises2Kids’ calendar as we observe National Foster Care Month. This month we bring awareness to the hundreds of thousands of foster youth nationally, and to the over 3,000 youth in foster care on any given day in San Diego County.

All the staff here at Promises2Kids are proud and honored to play a part in serving San Diego’s Foster Youth every day. Together we can work to build a brighter future.

Volunteer Recognized by County Board of Supervisors in Special Ceremony

Our Volunteers do so much incredible work behind the scenes here at Promises2Kids and we take every opportunity to give them the praise they deserve.

Promises2Kids volunteer Michelle SanFelippo was recognized by the County Board of Supervisors last week at a special meeting to proclaim April as Volunteer Recognition Month.

In her time with us, Michelle has volunteered at nearly every Camp Connect event, is a member of the Camp Connect Planning Committee, and has contributed over 200 hours. She is a role model to foster youth and fellow volunteers. Her warm presence and willingness to jump in and help is an inspiration.

We are so appreciative to have Michelle and all our volunteers as a part of our team!

Camp Connect Dives Into Sesame Place!

Camp Connect recently dove into a day of fun in the sun at the new Sesame Place. 35 siblings soaked up the sun, splashed around, and enjoyed time with their siblings and peers.

The more adventurous and older youth got their thrills on the many exhilarating water slides, while some opted for the lazy river. There was even options for those who preferred not to get wet, with the Cookie Climb ride and Snuffy’s Spaghetti Slides. Everyone, however, enjoyed some time kicking back on Big Bird’s beach spending quality time together.

At the end of the day, siblings left sunshined and looking forward to the next Camp Connect adventure. Thank you to our supporters and volunteers who help create and maintain these wonderful sibling connections under the beautiful California sun.

Advocates for Change End of Year Dinner

Advocates for Change brought its 2021-2022 year to a close with a dinner acknowledging and celebrating the hard work and growth of this year’s Guardian Scholar participants.

This class meets monthly to help students find their voice and improve on their speaking skills while preparing them for resume-building speaking engagements.

We want to thank our participants for their work as foster youth advocates. We are so proud to watch them grow into empowered voices for the cause.

Guardian Scholars who are interested in joining next year can email Faye@Promises2Kids.org.
