Guardian Scholars Bring to a Close an Amazing Year!

Last week, our Partners in Education event took place to honor Guardian Scholar Students and their sponsors’ dedication and commitment to supporting them. The event was followed by our Annual Guardian Scholars Awards Reception. This year we celebrated 29 graduates and welcomed 61 new Guardian Scholars and 208 returning current students.

Students heard opening remarks from Promises2Kids CEO, Tonya Torosian, and Guardian Scholar graduate, Zane delivered inspiring words sharing the support he received from Promises2Kids and his mentor throughout his educational journey.

Attendees had dinner and enjoyed a DJ, had the opportunity to get their portrait drawn by a caricature artist, smiled for photos in the photo booth, and more!

Thank you to all our supporters for allowing us to equip foster youth with the crucial tools and support necessary for our

Guardian Scholars to reach their goals! And a special thank you to @ESET for the support of this event.

Camp Connect Summer Camp 2023 Kicks Off!

2023 will be the largest Camp Connect Summer Camp ever and will span the entire week! Youth were reunited with their brothers and sisters, playing games, tie-dying shirts, and enjoying shaved ice together.

We are excited for the amazing week these siblings have in store for each other and we will be looking forward to sharing some of those moments with you!

LGBTQ+ Community Gathers to Support Guardian Scholar Mentorship at Sisters Pizza

Recently, a LGBTQ+ mentor recruitment event was held at Sisters Pizza in an effort to better match and support our youth who identify as LGBTQ+. Promises2Kids is committed to matching our youth with mentors they can identify with.

Attendees enjoyed delicious pizza, an appetizer bar, and mimosas as they heard from Promises2Kids CEO Tonya Torosian about the organization and the need for LGBTQ+ mentors. An opportunity drawing was also held, with prizes such as tickets to Pride, and our new Derby Days event taking place in November. Attendees also heard from current LBGTQ+ mentors and Guardian Scholars regarding the positive impact of LGBTQ+ mentorship through the specialty group.

Thank you to all in attendance and to @Sisterspizzasd for hosting this event and for fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for the LBGTQ+ community to get involved with Promises2Kids.

Parents, Children, and Staff Reflect on the Connections Made in the Parenting Group

What better place to celebrate a fantastic year end than at Chuck E. Cheese!

There was a big turnout as 22 youth and 23 children joined us to enjoy the culmination of a year in which much personal and community growth took place.

Parents and kids alike enjoyed games, fun, and each other’s company. Meeting on a Saturday, instead of the usual Thursday, opened the class up to even more parents who could not make regular classes due to work and other obligations.

Parenting Group is a specialty group for Guardian Scholars who have started families of their own and are interested in cultivating healthy parenting practices. The group meets monthly to learn skills, relate to challenges, and build on each other’s successes.
