Guardian Scholars and Mentors Enjoy Each Other’s Company at a Spring Event

Guardian Scholars, mentors, coaches, and staff gathered at @punchbowlsandiego spring event to celebrate the end of a long school year.

This event gave students a chance to blow off some steam with bowling, ping-pong, and plenty of food. Both mentors and students got to see a different side of each other in this relaxed and fun environment. Some were laser-focused on knocking the pins down, some preferred to clap and cheer each other on, while others were more interested in catching up with friends and getting to know someone new.

These events are an important part of our calendar as they give Guardian Scholars a chance to build relationships. It doesn’t hurt that they’re also a lot of fun!

Jimbo’s Raises Critical Funds

Thank you to @JimbosNaturally & Jimbo’s customers for supporting San Diego’s foster youth during #NationalFosterCareMonth! An amazing $4,976.54 was raised this May.

Your support helps give foster youth the opportunity to achieve their educational goals, reconnect with their siblings each month, participate in extracurricular activities, and more.

We are grateful to Jimbo’s for their continued support as a champion for foster youth!

3-Year-Old Ethan’s Wish Granted

Ethan (3) was only three months old when he was placed into foster care due to neglect and living in an unsafe environment. He has since been with a caregiver who is dedicated to providing him with the childhood he deserves.

Ethan is an active toddler and has autism. He thrives on movement and physical activity. Sensory items help him relax, stay focused, and expend his excess energy. That’s why his caregiver reached out to Promises2Kids, and through the Something Special Fund, Ethan’s request for a bike, wobble disk, and swing was granted.

Like any 3-year-old, Ethan loves his new bike and while he is still learning how to use the pedals, he enjoys showing his bike to his siblings and anyone around. He takes pride in riding his bike around the yard. With his new bike, wobble disk, and swing set up in his backyard, Ethan spends a lot of time in the fresh air, doing what he does best, being an active toddler. Best of all, these items have allowed him to bond and play with his siblings, where in the past, it was difficult to find toys that they could all enjoy.

With supporters like you, children like Ethan can receive that keep them active and start creating the happy memories of a carefree childhood.

Guardian Scholars Hit the Town

Guardian Scholars hit the town as they continued their Spring mini events! Coordinators treated their students to take a break from a busy time of year to help them relax and explore new interests. For this round, students immersed themselves in a cooking class, an escape room, tried Korean bbq, and kicked back in Belmont Park.

Events like these bring students together, build community, and give them a welcome break from all their hard work!

Guardian Scholars wrapped up their final Spring mini events! For this round, Guardian Scholars explored their creativity through painting, found some serenity practicing yoga with goats, and took in the sights on a segway tour through @balboapark.

It’s been great seeing Guardian Scholars have fun and build community together!

Parenting Group Holds A Reflective Last Meeting

Guardian Scholars Parenting Group met for their last traditional class of an awesome year!

The theme of the group was very reflective as parents discussed the importance of trying new things with their children and putting into practice the lessons and insights they’ve gathered from the group.

All parents shared the growth they felt throughout their year together. One mentioned that growth would not have been possible without the support and honest words of the group. She shared how much she values having a safe space where she can be open about the challenges and insecurities she experiences as a parent, knowing that struggle is okay and taking strength from that.

They brought home some fun summer items for their children to enjoy during the coming months as a reminder to continue trying new things and having fun!
