San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Nora Vargas and Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer recently presented a proclamation to community leaders honoring National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Promises2Kids CEO Tonya Torosian, alongside the YMCA, The Chadwick Center, and Child Welfare Services accepted the proclamation for each of their efforts to prevent child abuse.

We are honored to receive this recognition from the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and with their support, will continue to raise awareness for this cause.

A trip to the silver screen is all about imagination and making memories with those close to you. That’s exactly what 28 Camp Connect youth experienced this weekend when they visited The Lot in Liberty Station for a private screening of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Youth arrived early to have lunch with their siblings before settling into the luxurious theater seating. During the previews, concessions staff came around to each youth’s seat with their popcorn and sodas.

A highlight was the popular “Peaches” song, which many youth sang along to with their siblings.

An afternoon out with a sibling might be something many take for granted, but thanks to supporters like you, these youth get to take this special memory home.

One of the unique aspects of Guardian Scholar cultural specialty groups is to provide a platform for students to connect with a shared cultural heritage that may have been missing from their upbringing.

This month’s Latinx group focused on elevating your voice through art and creativity. They explored the ways in which art celebrates and communicates shared experiences by looking at prominent artists like Frida Kahlo, Selena, Bad Bunny, and Desi Arnez. They also discussed the rich tradition of Chicano art here in San Diego, including the murals of Chicano Park.

Volunteers are vital members of the Promises2Kids team and do so much amazing work creating brighter futures for San Diego’s foster youth.

For students looking to get a head start in their professional endeavors, Men’s and Women’s Leadership Network is here to provide guidance and insight to prepare them for success.

One of the most intimidating first hurdles in that journey is learning how to properly present yourself in an interview situation.

During the last meeting, coaches split up to conduct mock interviews in panels, on Zoom, and one-on-one with students. This scenario put Guardian Scholars in a controlled environment where they could feel the dynamics of an interview. This also allowed coaches to go in-depth with each student to address areas where they can improve.
