Volunteer Opportunities at Polinsky Children's Center

Due to the overwhelming generosity of San Diegans, we currently are not accepting new volunteers at the Polinsky Children’s Center. Our volunteers are extremely dedicated!

Each year, approximately 5 volunteer positions become available at the Polinsky Children’s Center.  This typically occurs when current volunteers move, retire or pursue other opportunities.

Listed below are County requirements to volunteer at Polinsky:

  •  Applicants must be at least 21 years of age
  •  Pass a medical exam to include a Tuberculosis skin test, and    Hepatitis and drug screenings
  • Commit to a minimum of one-year of service to the center
  •  Complete two criminal background checks.

The process begins with a mandatory orientation (schedule twice a year in March and September), and takes approximately 3 months for completion and implementation. If you are interested, please check back periodically for the next orientation registration (date and time).

 Foster Youth Mentor Program

Foster Youth Mentors are caring adults interested in mentoring a youth in foster care. Volunteers need to be able to commit a minimum 2 hours per week to a foster youth for 2 year. In addition to medical and criminal clearances, the Foster Youth Mentor Program requires a valid driver license, automobile insurance, individual interview, and a program training.
