Volunteer at Promises2Kids
Promises2Kids depends on volunteers to help plan special fundraising events, assist with office administrative projects, participate in community fairs, and assist with every detail and aspect of our popular Gift Drives. Volunteers play a vital role in our work to break the cycle of child abuse.

Contact Laurie Spears at 858-427-1112 or laurie@promises2kids.org for additional information.

Volunteer at Polinsky Children's Center
Due to the overwhelming generosity of San Diegans, we have almost all of the volunteers that we need at the Polinsky Children’s Center. Our volunteers are extremely dedicated! Each year, approximately 5 volunteer positions become available at the Polinsky Children’s Center.  This typically occurs when current volunteers move, retire or pursue other opportunities.

To volunteer at Polinsky, applicants must be 21 years of age, pass a medical exam to include a Tuberculosis skin test, and Hepatitis and drug screenings as well as a complete criminal background check.  Volunteers must also commit to a minimum of one-year of service and attend several training sessions. The entire process, from intake to start date, is approximately 3 months. If you are interested, you must attend a mandatory orientation session to receive your application. There are two orientations scheduled per year.

Our next orientation date is Wed, Sept 29, 2010 from 6-7pm at the Polinsky Children’s Center at 9444 Ruffin Court in Rms. 15 & 16 (see link to register above).

Foster Youth Mentor Program
Foster Youth Mentors are caring adults who can commit at least 2 hours per week to a foster youth for a minimum of 1 year. In addition to medical and criminal clearances, the Foster Youth Mentor Program requires a valid driver license, automobile insurance, individual interview, and a program initial training.  For more information or an application, contact Tin Le at the County of San Diego at (858) 503-2641.

Volunteer at Camp Connect
Through the Camp Connect Program, brothers and sisters separated in the foster care system have opportunities throughout the year to reconnect.  The joy on the faces of the children when they see each other again is the true highlight of this program!  Volunteers are needed throughout the year to help out at events. Past activities have included trips to fun locations such as Legoland and Knotts Berry Farm.  The main event is a 4-day camping trip (many volunteers are needed at camp).
